Since I was elected in 2002, I have helped lead the charge to block tax increases on Illinois families. Unfortunately, Speaker Madigan and the Democrat majority in Springfield need to consistently hike your taxes to fund their spending addiction. There is a better path: we must rein in spending. If we had held the line on spending over the past decade, or at least kept it at the rate of inflation, we would be running a surplus today. I am dedicated to fighting against higher taxes and increased spending.
In addition, I am committed to achieving property tax relief for you. Currently, I am co-
sponsoring legislation that will freeze property tax levies when homeowners’ assessments are dropping. This will force local governments to live within their means, because if they overspend they will not be able to force already over-burdened taxpayers to foot the bill. I have sponsored a number of additional bills to reduce the property tax burden we all face.
Finally, I am working to put Illinois back on the path to prosperity. I am proud to have written the law that reformed unemployment insurance, saving businesses up to 50% in unemployment insurance costs. We need to reduce the cost of doing business in Illinois and get out of the way of the entrepreneurs and small business owners who will then create good-paying jobs for our talented residents. And as our budgetary situation improves, we need to invest in desperately needed transportation improvements.
With your support, I will continue to fight for you in Springfield.
